1793 S.13 Liberty Cap Large cent, PCGS VG details, code 97 for excessive corrosion.  Yes indeed, this one has had a pretty rough life.  But, for about the same price, you can get one that might be smoother...but it will be literally worn nearly smooth!  You might be able to see a hint of the 3.  There might be virtually no reverse detail at all.  We've seen 'em with not even a shadow of the date sell for thousands.  Here is an alternative.  Yes, the coin is corroded, but it has fully rendered details on the obverse.  The date is full, bold and strong, as is every letter.  The head and cap are complete, and there is even some hair detail.  Every single bead in the border is complete and sharply defined.  Even on the worse-for-the-wear reverse, everything is visible and bold.  And, the coin does have a certain charm to it, though that may reflect our affinity for this issue to some degree - 1793 Liberty Cap cents are our favorite US coin type.  And, with only 11,056 produced, the universe of available specimens is just not that large.  If you prefer details over surface quality, here is a great coin for consideration.
