Gibson LG-1 (1957) Acoustic Guitar with Original Case.*** PLEASE READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTION FOR ACCURACY AND DETAILS, (See note half way down ***)
1957 Gibson LG 1 Acoustic Guitar with Original Brown Mock Alligator Skin Case. This guitar was found in a closet and shows virtually no sign of being played.
Who ever owned it previously did not play this guitar and it was purchased back in 1958 and then put away for 63 years.
This guitar comes with everything it had when sold back in late 1957, early 1958 from the music store: plastic pick pouch with 3 different types of Gibson picks and Bill of Sale.
The finish is clear and bright, the fretboard and frets are like new.
The tuners are all original including the plastic tuning buttons with zero wear.
There is one small chip in the lacquer face plate on the Gibson stenciled headstock plastic, (see detail photo), which is only cosmetic and does not affect playability.
Note
: Most artists that play LG-1 guitars tune them lower and use a capo to achieve the tuning the song is in, this way there is much less pressure on the bridge and soundboard.

A potential buyer asked me a couple of questions that I was not aware of and one was is there any belly in
the top of the sound board and is there a truss rod, the answers are: (1) Yes there is a 1/4" belly behind the bridge to the top, measuring across the entire lower bout, when tuned to 440-A or Concert E tuning, which hardly any musician tunes these smaller guitars to A-440. (2) Also there is a truss rod.
*On another note I noticed today that at in the same tuning the lower corner of the bridge, treble side has a 1/16" gap which was not seen before because all the songs I am used to playing are in Eb, (E Flat) or D tuning and use a capo, tuning in A-440 does not affect the playability however not recommended, because of these new findings I am lowering the Buy It Now price 33%
I will not hide anything about any guitar I offer for sale.
I believe the next owner should know as much about the history of a guitar as I can provide.
I put my reputation behind all the instruments I sell, no funny business.
In looking at these pictures, it would be hard to find anything wrong with this guitar.
Most old 1956 thru 1959 LG-1 guitars have the usual top crack between the pickguard and the fretboard due to shrinking of the rather large pickguard where it contacts the neck along the soundboard joint.
This guitar does not have any cracks.
This guitar was allowed to weather over the years mostly by chance because of never being exposed to the elements, hence the crack free beautifully grained spruce top.
I think you will agree by the pictures that this guitar looks better than new reissued models for sale today because of the superior woods used back in the 40’s and 50’s. What would distinguish it from any new guitar in stores today, is its TONE.
Regretfully it’s time to thin out the heard, so I am selling just about all my gear I’ve collected over the past 50 years.
