Why pay 00 for a new six string banjo when you can have an authentic instrument from the 1920s?It’s difficult these days to find an original six string banjo under 00. Also note that it's super rare to find an old one with standard guitar tuners – most have friction pegs, which can be really tough to tune.
Good banjos have a lot of metal parts and this is a great example of the real deal: a six string banjo from the Jazz era, circa 1925, made by the famous Slingerland company under the “Washington” brand (it’s literally branded with a hot iron). "Washington" was a “brand” name of J.W.Jenkins (a major music dealer in Kansas City Mo.) They contracted with various makers to build guitars, banjos, etc. for them. At a certain point, they made some of their own instruments but this is clearly a Slingerland as given away by the headstock. But it’s a really rare six-string guitar-banjo with a clever metal resonator/backplate that really makes it shout.
